World Environment Day

World Environment Day was first celebrated in the year 1974. This day has created a platform to raise an awareness that the world is facing the problem such as air pollution, plastic pollution, global warming and sea level increasing day by day. In the year 2022, Sweden is the host of world environment day. The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Only One Earth.’ This was also the slogan for the 1972 conference in Stockholm, where the annual global event was first instituted on June 5. Only One Earth – This year’s theme is ‘Only One Earth’, which draws the attention towards ‘sustainable living in harmony with nature’. Today, there is a need for consistent efforts by all of mankind to save the planet. ‘In 1972, the UN General Assembly designated 5 June as World Environment Day (WED). The first celebration, under the slogan “Only One Earth” took place in 1974. Each year, World Environment Day is hosted by a different country in which official celebrations take place. The host country for 2022 is Sweden. To commemorate the 1972 UN Conference on Human Environment, Sweden and Kenya, with support from UNEP and partners, are organizing a high-level international meeting – “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity”
